Roughly speaking, the neighborhood of Shirlington extends from Four Mile Run Dr. on the north to I-395 & Quaker Lane on the east to King Street on the south to Columbia Pike on the west.

Shirlington is a little area in south Arlington that is exploding. Well-known locally as a place to enjoy good food with friends and family, Shirlington is going through an expansion phase with new housing as well as a new grocery store and additional services and amenities to join the movie theatre and other shops already there. The renowned Signature Theater Company and a branch of the Arlington public library have opened new locations.
Within Shirlington are a variety of housing options, including high-rise condos (e.g., The Brittany/Century South, The Carlton, Shirlington Village), townhouses (e.g., The Arlington, Fairlington, Ft. Barnard Heights, Nauck, Shirlington Crest, Windgate), garden-style buildings (e.g., The Arlington, Courtbridge, Fairlington, West Village at Shirlington, Windgate), and single family detached homes. All of them offer a variety of floorplans and number of bedrooms and baths; garages are limited to single family detached homes.
Although Shirlington has no Metro stop, it does have express bus service during rush hour to the Pentagon -- about a 10 min. ride. In addition, the area is extremely convenient to I-395 north into Washington, D.C. or to points south along I-95. Arlington County is building a new transit center for Shirlington with expanded bus service to destinations like Pentagon City.
