Since 2003, I have sold almost $12 million in residential real estate in Fairfax County.  I have listed Fairfax County homes for sale and helped clients buy Fairfax County homes.  Of all the commnities in the county, I get the most requests for information about Alexandria, Falls Church, McLean, and Vienna.  As one moves farther out from the Beltway (e.g., Centreville, Reston, Herndon, Clifton, Lorton), the rule of thumb is more house for the money -- but the longer the commute into D.C.

For homes sold in January 2008, the average sold price for a single family detached home was $615,443; the average sold price for a townhouse was $383,648; the average sold price for a condominium was $282,899.

Location of Fairfax County:
Fairfax County is the next county to the west of Arlington County and to the south of the city of Alexandria. Fairfax County contains a number of communities, as well as surrounding the city of Fairfax. In the part of the county to the west of Arlington, popular communities include among others: Annandale, Centreville, Chantilly, Clifton, Fairfax, Falls Church, Great Falls, Herndon, McLean, Oakton, Reston, Sterling (which also is in neighboring Loudon County), and Vienna. In the part of the county to the south and west of the city of Alexandria, popular communities include among others: Alexandria, Burke, Fairfax Station, Ft. Belvoir, Lorton, Occoquan, and Springfield.
