Notes on Cleveland Park:
Taking its name from President Grover Cleveland's purchase and renovation of a home in the area in 1885, today the Cleveland Park Historic District is a lovely residential neighborhood dominated by single family detached homes, but also includes row houses, and condos and apartments in low-, mid-, and high-rise buildings. The Cleveland Park Historical Society "works to maintain and enhance the character and strength of Cleveland Park..." while the Cleveland Park Citizens Association aims to "foster and to advance all public interests in the area," including "preservation, protection, and enhancement of: educational and library resources, public safety and services for all citizens, and environmental values" among others. The main commercial areas of the neighborhood are along Connecticut Avenue, N.W. just north of the Woodley Park neighborhood, and along Wisconsin Avenue, N.W. for a few blocks north of the National Cathedral. Major grocery stores include a Giant near Wisconsin Avenue. The neighborhood is served by the Cleveland Park metro station as well as Metrobus. Rock Creek Park is a convenient, short drive, bike, walk, or run.
