Adams Morgan is best known these days for its lively, international nightlife with numerous restaurants and nightclubs lining 18th Street, N.W., one of the two main thoroughfares of the neighborhood. North of Dupont Circle, east of Woodley Park, south of Mt. Pleasant, and west of Columbia Heights, Adams Morgan has a definite urban, eclectic feel. Adams Morgan Main Street Group is working to "enhance our local business area and preserve its multicultural dynamism." The Adams Morgan Parnership Business Improvement District was formed to improve life and services in the area.
The housing stock in the area is dominated by townhouses, but also includes a variety of mid-rise condo and cooperative units. There has been a renaissance of rehabs and new construction over the past several years, e.g., between 18th and 16th Streets, N.W. Although there is no metro station within Adams Morgan, the Woodley Park-Zoo/Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle, and Columbia Heights metro stations are in adjacent neighborhoods. Adams Morgan is well served by Metrobus, and the Rock Creek Parkway is a short drive away in Woodley Park. There are two main grocery stores in the neighborhood: the Safeway on Columbia Road, N.W. and the Harris Teeter at 17th Street, N.W. & Kalorama Rd., N.W.
